    Lets try this again!

I came across something rather interesting elsewhere on the web. The author was summing the last 3 results to give an indication of what might come up next. For example, consider the last 5 results for Lotto 6/49:

    31-12-2016 3 5 14 18 26 28 (40)
    04-01-2017 2 11 13 23 35 48 (30)
    07-01-2017 1 10 18 19 23 27 (48)
    11-01-2017 24 34 36 38 42 43 (30)
    14-01-2017 1 6 19 30 32 44 (33)

For position 1 we have 3+2+1=6, followed by 2+1+24=27 and, most recently, 1+24+1=26. For the next result the sum will be 24+1+?=>26.

For P1 the sums have ranged between 3 (3 1's in a row) to 63 with 80% of the results falling between 10 and 35.

So what we can do is plug in various values for P1 to see what kind of sum this gives us. For example, if we guess that P1=1 then that will give us 24+1+1=26. This is the same as the previous sum, which only happens about 3% of the time, so I would eliminate 1.

Another way to look at this is to check the Delta value (change) between the current and previous sums. So, 27-6=21, 26-27=1. These deltas cluster at the low end, with 50% being between 1 and 5. The same delta value only hits 7% of the time, so less likely that we will get another sum=26 (P1=1). The deltas are calculated in absolute differences (plus or minus doesn't matter, only change). For P1, however, we can't go lower than 1, so possible values for the next draw would be sums of 27,28,29,30 or 31 or P1 values of 2,3,4,5 or 6. We have a 50% probability of hitting one of these.

A P1=6 (or sum 31) would be at the 85th percentile of the distribution, which is high (but possible) so I might go with a P1 value of 2-4.

    We will see tonight!

Do you do the same thing with each Number Position to get your combinations?
How did it go in you test?

    Thanks for your interest, Allen!

Actually, P1 was the worst of them! We got 10 at P1 which was right out of range.

For P2 all my eliminations were correct but I thought 16 was the best choice. We got 17.
For P3 I correctly called the eliminations and the result (20) was one of 3 digts selected.
For P4 I was correct with the eliminations, but I selected 19-21 and 25. We got 24
For P5 the eliminations were correct and the result (33) was in the range I selected (31-35)
For P6 I was able to correctly eliminate 13 numbers and the result (35) was one of the 10 possibles I identified.

So, generally it worked pretty well. I will continue to play with it to see if I can fine-tune the predictions.

OK, lets try out some ideas for tonight's draw:

    Eliminations

    P1 3,13,15
    P2 11,21,34,27
    P3 18,28,38,36,34
    P4 23,33,38, 43
    P5 32,42
    P6 31,35,41,43

    Predictions:
    P1 1,7,8,9,10
    P2 5,6,10,12-16
    P3 24,25,26,27
    P4 34,35,36,37
    P5 30,31,33,34,40,41
    P6 45,46

These picks are just based on the 3 Sum tool. I may eliminate some of them in other ways, but that is not the focus of this exercise.
    Good Luck!

Has anyone ever tested out something like this, but using averages of more games? I'm wondering if summing 3 games is optimal or if a higher number (5?) might be better.

Must the draws be in numeric order or will drawn order be just as good.

I use numeric order because there are natural limits on the range of numbers that appear at each position. For example, Position 1 usually ranges between 1 and 15, whereas drawn order could range between 1-49, so any average would tend to move around 25.

    Good luck!
