Just curious, Francis, have you yourself ever achieved 5+B or 6/6 using your theory?

Try a small amount of patience  and you'll not loose the theory ... it will make you to see numbers in some ways you have not seen yet :agree:

The problem exists if you go on stuck, thinking only in your last looser move.

Patience is good practice in such cases, what means it's good in +- 90% of them :D sorry 99% :D :D

Hi Maggie,

No, I have not yet achieved five plus the bonus or the Jackpot but I know how to get it.

Using my theory, the closest I ever got was one digit away from the Jackpot in the UK. The numbers that came out was:

4 11 14 39 43 44 Bonus was 37 and my numbers were

4 11 14 39 42 44 and I got just £1,494.00 for that. It is all in the website that I have set up with my colleagues.

Hi Thornc,

No, I am not like the Brazilian guy because I would very much like to share my idea just to see if anyone has ever thought along those lines before.

Let me start to reveal the theory by making a statement of fact and that is, the most occurring number in the 6/49 lottery is number one. Do you agree or disagree and if you disagree, please tell me your reasons.

Hi Beaker,

With my idea, patience becomes very important. Before patience can be accepted as part of the accepted theory of the lottery, you must understand how you have sellected your numbers and what you are hoping those numbers will achieve in terms of expected results.

Hi Peter,

I am not teasing. It is just that it has taken 10 years to understand something that is theoretically so straight forward and what I am trying to do is to let other members appreciate how difficult it has been in order to understand what I understood.

The Lottery is an illusion which is wrapped up into a sequence of events described as random but is the system random in the long run?

I believe in Benford's Law for picking although we can't verify but not occurring although GillesD has gone through some calculations for our 6/49 validating Benford's Law for the first position.

I am happy you came out with a new theory for a 6/49 lottery and I sure hope you will share it with us. But at the same, you can expect quite a few comments on it. And I will be certainly be one of the most critical ones but I have the tendency to base my comments on hard facts, not perceptions, assumptions or similar concepts.

Already, I can make two comments:

A - Number 1 as the most occuring number:

When you say "the most occurring number in the 6/49 lottery is number one", it depends on how you look at numbers and here are a few examples:
- no, number 1 is not the most occuring number in the 49 numbers (taken as a whole), it is simply one out of 49;
- yes and no, number 1 is the most occuring number in all 49 numbers (each digit taken individually) but it shares this distinction with numbers 2, 3, and 4 with 15 occurences while number 0 occurs only 4 times;
- yes, number 1 is the most occuring number if you consider the deltas with 12.24% of all deltas being 1;
- and so on.
So please be specific when making a statement like this.

B - Winnings with your theory:

I am happy you got 5 winning numbers in the UK lottery (with only one number off for the last one). But I sure hope you invested wisely the amount you won, because the draw you mentionned happened on March 7th, 1998. Did you repeat such a good performance lately or has your theory provided you with a steady (and positive) income? Here we have a member that has achieved this quite a few times. (No name please).

Hi Grandmaster,

My understanding is that the lottery is absolutely predictable over time and one of the ways of proving this is to collect all the data either Canadian or UK lottery depending on where you reside. You then write a program that will allow you to see how the lottery results and the combinations of 13,983,816 agree with each other. If there is an agreement, then, the lottery cannot be predictable because it is acting in accordance with its theoretical values. The next thing to do is to look at each number in each column and see how that is behaving when compared with the lottery results. There is absolutely no need for complicated mathematical formula because all of this depends on number counting and that depends on a good program. You see, past data has a significant relevance to the future behaviour of this system. Without past data, you cannot predict the future occurrence of the numbers. The system is chaogic and for those who know, every chaos system must have simple pattern in it.

Hi GilesD,

I made a comment without specific because I wanted certain discussion about it and I am glad that you have taken that on board. I have had other winnings like five numbers and four numbers but to be honest, I am not here to boast about anything. The only reason that I mentioned that particular one was because it was the closest I have ever got to achieving my objective.

I do not know if what I know is a new theory or not but I hope that it will bring some enlightment to other members in this forum and believe me when I say that I am not here to promote anything either. I just wanted some critizism to my understanding because when people are critical of my understanding, it helps me to check my fact again and again. So, I said that number one is the most occurring number but only in column one or draw 1 because it has the most amount of combination in that column. The combination is 1,712,305.

Hi Lottobug,

it is not possible to just give you a hard fact based on a simple mathematical formula because there simply is not one simple formula to predicting the lottery. What I did was to study the system by challenging certain fundamental facts like:

1. Is the lottery a true representation of a random system?

2. Is it predictable?

3. Can we use past data to predict possible future six number combinations?

4. Does each combination of numbers occur equally?

5. Is the chances of winning the lottery 1 in 13,983,816.

Patience is a virtue and without patience, we cannot learn or understand so, please bear with me as I start to throw hard fact at you and there are so many which will be revealed here free to all members who are interested for the sake of understanding.

Hi Beaker,

There is no need to leave because there is so much to tell and it will all be free. I will reveal as much as I can here in this forum. To be quite honest, I cannot wait but you must realised that if someone has studied a system for 10 years, they must have so much to say that it is just not possible to say it in one go. I will be bringing so much hard fact but I really would like to use the results from the Canadian Lottery so that members can check my fact. The trouble is that I have just downloaded all the results since 1982 and it will take me sometime to put it all in my program but I will try. If you are really interested in the Lottery and you like numbers a lot, then, please wait and give me sometime to start to give you hard facts. This will be like a learning curve.

When you said "number one is the most occurring number but only in column one or draw 1 because it has the most amount of combination in that column. The combination is 1,712,305.", I do not think you are totally right.

A - I get a total of 1,712,304 combinations (not 1,712,305) with the number 1 in first position. Typing error of your part or wrong logic from either you or me, we should see as most likely thornc or PAB wil come up with a value of their own. Small error you will say but may be it was that kind of small error that prevented you from winning the jackpot in the UK lottery.

B - Yes, number 1 is the most occuring number in first position BUT have you looked at number 49 in the sixth position, oddly enough it also occurs 1,712,304 times, so your statement is only half-true. And coincidences being coincidences, all other numbers (from 2 to 48) also occur 1,712,304 times but sadly enough, spread over all six positions.

But I do not think this provides any usefull information as we are not betting on a horse-racing lottery where position is most important contrary to a 6/49 lottery.

Francis Isaac

Hi Giles,

You are partly correct in the combination of number 1 in position one. It was a typing error from my part. I also agree that number 49 in position six has exactly the same combination as number one but one statement that I strongly disagree with is that the position of the numbers does not matter. The position of the numbers is absolutely fundamental to their occurrence in the 6/49 lottery. IF you put a particular number in the wrong position, your chances of winning will decrease dramatically and I can provide you with endless data to prove this. You must take great care in which position you put which number. I know that you said that there is nothing new in what I have to say so far but now, that is a very new statement. Position, Position, Position is one of the most important fact when it comes to choosing your lottery numbers in 6/49 lottery.

GillesD

Francis Isaac

Both Lotto 6/49 and BC49 are both 6/49 lotteries with 6 winning numbers and a bonus number. Lotto 6/49 is sold across Canada while BC49 is for British Columbia. Many provinces (Quebec, Ontario, etc.) have these regional lotteries, usually costing less but with lower prizes.

With its long history (over 2200 draws), Lotto 6/49 can provide more representative and significant statistics if you want to compare actual and expected values.

GilesD,

Thanks for that information. The reason why I wanted to know is because I am thinking of combining both 649 and BC 49 together in order to have more data to study and also to make certain predictions regarding future occurrence of six number combinations. As you will appreciate, no one can claim that they understand how to get higher prices without being able to prove it by making strong predictions which should be proven over time.

peter
04-13-2005, 06:53 PM
I would not combine the two, it is liking making predications based on combining the U.K. and Germany's lottery.
The bulk of the players here play the national 649, with 2214 draws, you should have sufficient data.
If you combine the two, I would say your data would be immaterial, and of little use.

GillesD
04-13-2005, 07:36 PM
Francis Isaac

I agree completely with peter. If you want a large database, do as I did, generate random combinations of 6 or 7 numbers (if you want a bonus number included). I have a 15,000 combinations database that I use for various purposes.

Also I do not fully understand your emphasis on position when you choose your numbers. Pick your numbers as you want but there is one and only way you can win: your numbers MUST match the numbers on the balls coming out of the machine. And they can come out in any order (for example: 03-08-13-19-34-41 or 41-34-19-13-08-03 or 08-19-41-03-13-34 or any of the other 717 possible permutations). The order they come out is immaterial to the amount you win but the amount you win is directly related to the number of matches between your chosen numbers and those drawn.

Francis Isaac
04-13-2005, 08:39 PM
Hi Peter,

I take your point. I have separate data for the UK and German lottery and I have also combine the two for my own reason and the reason is that I hope to play both the UK and German lottery once I have the means or shall I say enough members to do so. As far as using the data to predict future Canadian Lottery results, I will not combine the two data but I will focus on the 649 draws for my prediction.

Francis Isaac
04-13-2005, 09:04 PM
GillesD,

It is important that the data you use for prediction is past data from the machine themselves because each random generation of numbers behaves differently. I want to have the confident of knowing that a particular random system has not produced certain numbers in certain positions and I then make my prediction accordingly. Also what is important is not in which order the balls drop from the machine but when the numbers are then put in order so that we can understand it. Don't forget that the numbers are in order according to their theory anyway, what appears to be random is in which order the combination of six numbers comes out. Let me explain what I mean by positioning by using two combinations of numbers and they are:

D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6
1 2 30
1 2 30

In the top combination without focusing on the rest of the other numbers, the combination 1,2 and 30 in position D3 is much lower than 1,2 and 30 in position D4. 1,2 and 30 in position D3 has 969 combinations and 1,2 and 30 in position D4 has 4617 combinations. My message is that you should play by chance because by understanding chance, you can increase your realistic chance of winning the jackpot.

ok Francis ---
I am all ears---
nice to know someone else is committed to number co incidence/s... Let me tell you this and every one else here-- here in Australia we have a lotto game that plays 6 from 35 numbers -- although the pay outs are some what small-- ie-- rouughly $4000- I have won several times using wheeling systems and Key numbers--- ie-- always choosing one number and 5 wheeled numbers-- to date I am up about $15,000 over 4 years- and thats on top of my original investment-- it takes me about 11 hrs to compile my chosen numbers - fill in the tickets and have them processed. I am happy thus so far that the amount won is justifyable to the time put in. you could say it works out to roughly $150 per hr in profit. So I firmly believe that numbers and lotto and winning is simple and fun.
Lets break new ground-- this includes one and all, and I hope that we will win the big one over an over again.
cheers to all.

Hi red0412303609,

I am very happy for you that you are doing well in the Australian lottery.

I think that using one banker in your wheel is a very good idea but I am not too keen on wheeling system when it comes to 6 out of 49 lottery.

My idea of choosing the numbers is very effective although, it may mean that you will not be in profit for a very long time. The reason for this is because my system is based on targeting the higher prizes like five plus the bonus number or the Jackpot.

I do not want to win the Jackpot every other day, I just want to win it once so that I can quit the rat race.

As soon as I win the Jackpot, I would like to concentrate on the stock Market using the Black Scholes Theory of predicting the price of options and various other theoretical calculations. It is my dream but until then, I will analyse the 6 out 49 lottery for as long as I am alive.

I am still compiling and working on the Canadian 6 out 49 lottery results and I have been up all night analysing it using my lottery program. Once I have finished, I will be able to post certain combinations of numbers predicted to come out in the Canadian 649 lottery. So please keep on logging on to see those prediction.

Francis and Red...

From the various 6/49 Lotteries around the World I have a database of some 17,850 Draws.

I have done a few things with this -

1 Destroyed the 150 Sum myth
2 Destroyed the Evens/Odds myth

and a few others.

The biggest problem dealing with people with exaggerated claims is pinning them down to something to test.

Do you have something that is testable? Don't worry - you adequately descibe it and I'll code it.

Now why do I think I;m going to get the stunned mullet response.

What peeves me off with brag artists is the underlying assumption that they think they're better than people who have published stuff which rebuffs just about everthing they claim but which they never go to the trouble to seek out and read.

What that really means is they are looking for mug buyers.

I suggest that Lotto Forums are not your best scalping territory.

Colin

Here is a question for you. If I give you a Lotto History can you tell whether it is in the order as drawn or the reverse order?

hi there cmf---
can u bring me up to speed on the 150 sum myth
and the odd and even myth.
Ill just add 2 cents here
I know that usually most winning combinations fall into a favorable sum range and as for odds evens-- my visualisation of seeing that some draws favours odds and then some draws favour evens - ie lets say the last 3 draws in a lottery showed 4 evens and 2 odds then it seems to swing the other way with more odds and less evens in a draw coming up-- I guess u could say its like a pendulum motion
maybe its similar to newtons law or murphys law-- what goes up can always go wrong??????
go on - fill me in???
Im all ears

what I have noticed is the bigger the lottery say 6 from 49 the more difficult it is to get a hit of favorable numbers-- I guess it boils down to the old addage of a saying-- ya stretching ya luck!!!!

Spot on as Usual GillesD.
I Setup an Excel Spreadsheet to Calculate the Positional Analysis of EACH Ball in EACH Position for a 649 Lotto.
The First Table is the Total Combinations for EACH of the 6 Numbers in EACH of the 6 Positions.
The Second Table is the Total Percentage for EACH of the 6 Numbers in EACH of the 6 Positions. The Totals Might NOT Agree if you Add them Up Because they are Set to 2 Decimal Places ( so they Fit into this Post ) when Ideally they Need to be Set to 4 Decimal Places.
Both Tables are Setup as Ball Number, Positions 1 to 6 & Totals.
You can Copy & Paste the Information into an Excel Spreadsheet, then on the Menu Bar Select Data, Text to Columns, Delimited & Comma to View the Tables.

Hi Peter

I take your point. I have separate data for the UK and German lottery and I have also combine the two for my own reason and the reason is that I hope to play both the UK and German lottery once I have the means or shall I say enough members to do so.

I Assume you are Intending to Setup a Syndicate for Your System.

Hi PAB,

The first thing that your data prove to me is that the position of the numbers in space is very important in terms of your odds of winning or your chances of winning. Let us take an example and use number 2 from your date. Number 2 in position one has 1,533,939 combinations but number 2 in position two has 178365. Although there are more combinations of number 2 in position 1, your chances of winning decreases dramatgically because there are just too many combinations. But with number 2 in position two, you have a better chance of winning because there are less or lower combination and the jackpot is suddenly reachable. I must say that you have done some fantastic work here, well done. Of course, when you look at each individual numbers, their total will be 1,712,304 and there is no advantage to knowing that but the advantage is imposing certain limitation on the numbers by not allowing them to have a free movement across the numbers. For example, look at the position of the number within just 1 and 2 using the same idea from above. 1and 2 breakdown as shown below

Number 1 in position one has 178365 and number 2 in position 2 has 178365. Now let us look at number 3,4,5,6 etc down column three or position three if you like and the numbers are as shown below:

3 15,180
4 14190
5 13244
6 12341
7 11480
8 10660
9 9880
10 9139
11 8436
12 7770
13 7140
14 6545
15 5984
16 5456
17 4960
18 4495
19 4060
20 3654
21 3276
22 2925

Number 23 all the way to number 48 in column three or position three continues to decrease all the way down and that is a very powerful thing to know.

Hi CMF,

I currently have a database of 42,000 and I need more combinations. Also in order to prove that my theory of choosing lottery numbers works very well, I am going to predict certain combinations of numbers coming out in the 649 Lottery and we can all see how good the theory is. My theory is not based on odd or even numbers, it is not based on the wheeling system, it is based on understanding how the numbers are arranged in nature and using the same arrangement to select my numbers. My theory has a draw back and that is you will have to be a very patient person to see its effect in action. You just wait for me to finish working on the 649 Lottery results as I am still analysing it at the moment.

Francis

How about posting some the the strategies" and knowhow that you'ved been saying and also the tips for the next draw instead of just replying to our comments.

It just makes this whole thread longer and longer without you telling us really nothing of what you said you have learned and understood off of Lotto and that you would tell us.

Now how about it?

Hi Lottobug,

It is impossible to have any strategy that will predict the next six number combinations in the next draw. I don't care who says it and whether they are scientist or not, it can never, ever be done. The reason is quite simple, if you have a method for predicting the next draw, you will never share it with anyone. If that is what you are expecting, I do not and cannot do that. What I can do is set up a combination of six numbers that I expect to come out within the next six months to a year. With my system, you have to go through pain in order to have a chance of getting five and the bonus number and /or the jackpot. I have learned a lot and what I have learned is quite simply this, you cannot discard the way those numbers are arranged in nature. All you have to do is to learn how they are arranged in nature and use that understanding to select your numbers. With my system, no pain, no gain.

Hi PAB,

Yes, I have this data and they are in total agreement with my data but what does this data tells you about number selection. What conclusion can you actually draw from them in terms of how to win five plus the bonus number or the jackpot. Why do you not include the bonus number when analysing this data. This data are very useful to me but since you are not making any comment about them, I just wondered whether you have any comment to make.

This Thread is Getting More and More Interesting.
One of the Reasons I Posted the Data is so that Other Members of this Forum can See for themselves what is Being Discussed. I Personally Find it a Lot Easier to have Physical Data in Front of me Rather than have an Image in my Head.
I have a Program that I Use for Testing Filters to Reduce the Number of Combinations. I Use Data in Regard to Positional Distribution from the UK Table I Posted, this Way I can Set the Minimum AND Maximum Values for EACH Position of a Combination.
At the End of the Day though, you can Set Endless Amounts of Filters to Reduce the Total Number of Combinations to a More Manageable Size, But with Every Filter comes the Chance that you Disregard the Big One.
For Example, the Positional UK Minimum AND Maximum Values as at Draw Number 971 > Draw Date - Wednesday 13/04/2005 are as Follows :-

Position Minimum Maximum
Number Number Number
1 1 30
2 2 38
3 3 43
4 5 47
5 12 48
6 16 49

The Positional Canadian Minimum AND Maximum Values as at Draw Number 2,215 > Draw Date - Wednesday 13/04/2005 are as Follows :-

Position Minimum Maximum
Number Number Number
1 1 38
2 2 43
3 3 44
4 4 47
5 11 48
6 13 49

Considering the Difference in the Total Number of Draws Between the UK & Canadian Lotto, this Analysis is NOT Surprising.

I have a similar spreadsheet calculating the range for numbers in each position. As I expected, my data matches yours perfectly, but I added an option to specify a certain percentage (let’s say 75%) and the macro calculates between which numbers 75% of the numbers drawn will be between. My output is somewhat like this:

Position #1: 100.0% between 01 and 38 and 75.5% between 1 and 10

Position #2: 100.0% between 02 and 43 and 77.4% between 04 and 21

Position #3: 100.0% between 03 and 44 and 76.0% between 12 and 31

Position #4: 100.0% between 04 and 47 and 77.2% between 20 and 39

Position #5: 100.0% between 11 and 48 and 75.8% between 31 and 46

Position #6: 100.0% between 13 and 49 and 79.2% between 40 and 49

As an example, for position #5, this indicates that up to now (2215 draws), all values (100.0%) of the numbers are between 11 and 48 and that in 75.8% of the draws (or 1679), the numbers are between 31 and 46.

I am not sure but with a limited amount of draws and a rather odd distribution of numbers in a given position, the values may slightly be off by 1 or 2 but for Lotto 6/49, I am quite confident in the data it provides.

Hi GillesD,

According to my understanding numbers between 1 and 10 should come out more often in position 1 and numbers between 40 to 49 should come out in position 6. It seems to me that there is still not enough data because the results shows that the system is still not behaving perfectly in accordance with its theoretical values in space. Can you please use your spread sheet to find out how often numbers 1 to 10 occur in position 1 and how often number 40 to 49 occur in position 6. If you can post the results in your reply, I will be most grateful. By the way, some very good work has been produced by you, well done and keep it up because I love seeing raw data to back up observation.

In all possible combinations, 10,721,193 combinations (or 76.67%) have a number equal or less than 10 in first postion; for the sixth position, it is exactly the same values for values of 40 or higher. This would represent 1698 combinations (value rounded) in Lotto 6/49 with its 2215 draws.

Here are the actual results:
- 1672 combinations (or 75.5%) have a number 10 or less in first position;
- 1755 combinations (or 79.2%) have a number 40 or higher in sixth position.

The differences are not to large (1.1% and 2.6% respectively) but it is known that, up to now, higher numbers have come out slightly more often than expected in Lotto 6/49.

Here are the actual results per decade for all draws up to now (note that this data applies to all numbers in all positions):
01 to 09: 2409 -- 2442 -- 18.1% -- 18.4%
10 to 19: 2591 -- 2712 -- 19.5% -- 20.4%
20 to 29: 2667 -- 2712 -- 20.1% -- 20.4%
30 to 39: 2794 -- 2712 -- 21.0% -- 20.4%
40 to 49: 2829 -- 2712 -- 21.3% -- 20.4%

The data is given in the following order:
- the values for each decade;
- the actual value for numbers in that decade;
- the theorical value for numbers in that decade;
- the actual percentage;
- the theorical percentage.

Hi GillesD,

That is an Interesting Concept. I Like the Way you have Managed to Reduce the Total Combinations Even Further. I would be Interested in Seeing the Macro if that is OK with you. At the End of the Day, it is ALL About Reducing the Total Number of Combinations while STILL Keeping the Jackpot Numbers Alive.
I Use a Percentage Deviation ( Variance ) Method on Minimum & Maximum Values of Criteria to Date. Basically what I Mean is, if for Example we Use the Total Minimum & Maximum Sum of ALL 6 Numbers in a Combination for ALL Draws to Date, I then Apply the Percentage Deviation ( Variance ) Method on those Two Values of say 25%. I do this to Exclude the Minimum & Maximum Sum(s) that are Beyond the Normal.
If I Apply my Method to the Above Mentioned, if the Minimum Sum Value for ALL 6 Numbers was say 59, Applying the Percentage Deviation ( Variance ) of 25%, the New Value would Become 74. Accordingly, if the Maximum Sum Value for ALL 6 Numbers was say 245, Applying the Percentage Deviation ( Variance ) of 25%, the New Value would Become 184.
It is Basically a Way of Eliminating History Criteria that was a One Off ( Upto Now of Course ) and Beyond the Previous Normal. Obviously the Percentage Deviation ( Variance ) could be Whatever you Feel Fitting to Achieve the Required Results, and this Method can be Applied to Most Filtering Techniques.

All the Best.

As usual, I do not have problem sharing my code, but I will give you the principle first so you may develop your own code or eventually I could put it out here.

My method to determine the limits for a certain percentage of the draws:

1 – I calculate the distribution for each number at a given position using the FREQUENCY function of Excel

2 – I enter the percentage I want and calculate how many values this gives based on the total number of draws

3 – Taking the distribution, I look for the lowest value at either end of the distribution

4 – I set this value to 0 and recalculate the sum of values

5 – I repeat this until the sum is still over the value found in step 2 but the next number removed would make go under this value

6 – This gives me the limits for the percentage I entered initially.

I think an example might be more appropriate for you to understand. Let’s take the distribution for position #3 after 2215 draws.

- With a percentage of 75% and 2215 draws, I get a limit value of 1661

- The distribution extends from 1 occurrence for #3 to 2 occurrences for #44 and the sum is obviously 2215

- I remove the 1 for #3 for a sum of 2214, then the 2 for #44 for a sum of 2212, then the 3 for #43 for a sum of 2209

- I continue like this, always removing the lowest number from either end (top or bottom) of the distribution

- At one point, after removing the 60 occurrences for # 32, I get a sum of 1684 distributed between #12 and #31

- Removing the next smallest number (58 for #31) would give a sum of 1626, under the limit value (1661) calculated initially.

- I now have the limits (#12 to #31) giving me the percentage I was looking for (actually 76.0%).

This method of calculating always gives a value slightly over the percentage wanted.

Great thread!

A few questions for you good people -

Francis Isaac
1 - I'm real interested in checking out your web site, can you post the URL (I also have a web site where I post lottery forecasts and results)?
2 - What is Benford's Law and where can I find information about it?

Red0412303609
1 - Austrailian 6/35, somehow I missed that one - can you post a URL where I can find more information, draw results, etc - I'd like to include it in my forecasting system. The lowest odds pick 6 I'm looking at is a 6/25 in the US (West Virginia Cash 25), most of the pick 6 lotteries I'm looking at are > / 40.

CMF
1 - What is the 150 sum myth?
2 - What is the evens/odds myth?
I use sums and evens/odds in my forecasting, although not a specific number for the sums.

If anyone is interested, I am also working on a system to forecast the lottery (I'm working solo, I'm trying to pick winners in all lotteries - each one being unique in it's own right having a different set of parameters for the forecast, currently I'm working with 66 lotteries around the world). Please check the threads on lottery forecasting under "Anything goes", check my forecasts / results for your favorite lottery and let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance ...

Thanks for the Information, I will have a Look at it Over the Weekend. What do you think about my Percentage Deviation ( Variance ) Method. In your Opinion, is it a Reasonable Way of Reducing Combinations Even Further while Still Hopefully Keeping the Jackpot Numbers Alive.

Your method is one-way to do it. It has some advantages (easy to calculate, adjustable as you want, etc.) but I see one main disadvantage.

The calculations are based on only 2 values (minimum and maximum) and this can lead to unrepresentative results if there is some extreme value (an outlier as sometime defined). This is especially true when dealing with a normal distribution and the distribution for the sum of numbers is definitely normal.

As an example, in Lotto 6/49, after 2215 draws, the lower and upper limits for the sum are respectively 45 and 263. Using your method of 25%, you would get new limits of 56 and 197. This amounts to 2033 draws or 91.8%. But using the second lowest and highest values (53 and 247), the new limits would now be 66 and 185. This would now amount to 1864 draws or 84.2%.

This is quite a difference. As you can see, your method is very dependent on the 2 values you choose (out of all values). I would rely more on a method taking into account all values (like with the standard deviation) or a known percentage of all values (like what I calculated).

Dear All,

Having collected and analyse all the 649 lottery results from 1982 to 2005, I can now make the following statement. There are several predictions possible but there is not enough money to play them all. So, I have decided using my logic and the theory of the lottery as understood by me to release the following combinations as having the possibility of coming out in the 649 lottery. This combination will either come out as five plus the bonus ball and /or the jackpot. To play the complete set which will definitely guarantee either five plus the bonus number and/or the jackpot, there are 400 possible combinations which is 400 dollars per game and I do not believe that most people have the money to play the whole set on a regular basis. Therefore I have filtered the combinations to two sets. One set will cost just 60 dollars to play per game and the other set will cost 90 dollars to play on a regular basis. I cannot do better than this because to reduce the combination further will greatly reduce the chance of winning five plus the bonus number and/or the jackpot.

You sure are confident that numbers 10 and lower and 40 and higher will come out heavily in the next draw since these numbers represents nearly 88% of all numbers in your 400 combinations.

Your statement "the whole complete set of 400 lines which should guarantee five plus the bonus number and/or the jackpot" should be written with a very big SHOULD. It may happen since nothing is impossible but I can think of several combinations that would not be very good. It is a good chance you did not post these combinations before draw #2215, it would have been a complete waste of money.

Numbers 42, 44 and 45 might not be bad choices as they have not come out for quite some time.

Also just a reminder: in Lotto 6/49, playing one combination costs $2.00. So at $120, $180 and $400 a shot, your combinations will have to be very very good.

Yesterday, I posted an additional table with Sums separated into bands - 150 to 151, 148 to 149 etc.

When you understand that a popular Lotto program LottoPro 2004 states in the help file that filtering is based on Sums and Odds/Even I believe this to be a significant debunking.

Obviously, what follows from this is your system must produce combinations without resorting to filtering based on Numerical Order, Sums or Odds/Evens.

Some may have surmised that filters based on:

Numerical Order
Odds/Evens
Sums

did not work. I'm happy to be corrected, but I believe that I'm the first to conclusively prove they don't work in the way intended.

Sorry, wanted to say 400 lines, but still there is the number 800 involved..I'm not sure if it was because of that $800 necessary to play this thing that failed the very first time, or because of something else... :D

Hi Nick,

I can see what you have done regarding the 17 lines and I do accept the advantages as far as cost is concern but I see no advantage in getting five out of 6 because I am interested in 6 out of 6. That is where the big money is. I am sure that other members will be interested in the reduction. There is a serious flaw with this system though and that is how are you going to decide which three bankers is going to represent 15 16 and 17? How will you decide how to pick those three bankers? If you select them at random, you are wasting your time. You have to select them based on past 649 Canadian Lottery results. I cannot see this system giving 5 out of 6 for a very, very long time, that is, if it ever will.

Hi GillesD,

Lotteries can be about luck if you want it to be or it can be about chance if you want it to be. It can be anything you want it to be as long as you believe it, that is what it is. I believe in chance and not luck. I believe that in order to win, you have to have a psychology that says that you are going to win one day even if you have lost in the past. You have to be prepared to loose in order for you to win one day. Where there are so many combinations against you, how else can you possibly have a chance of winning. The problem with number prediction is, nobody want to lose first before they win. They are all looking for an automatic prediction today and the next draw a win straight away and that is why majority of people do not have a chance. My number prediction did not say that you will not loose at all. It says that your chances of winning the five plus the bonus number and/or the Jackpot will increase dramatically when 1 and 3 come out together in that order and it will. One thing that I like about my prediction is that it will stand the test of time. Those who ridicule my plan today, will not know what to do when the prediction is proven to be correct tommorrow. If the data that I have downloaded is accurate, those numbers will behaves exactly as predicted.

Hi PAB,

You do not predict the future behaviour of the system like that. If a combination of six number has occurred in the past, it has little or no chance of coming out again in the future and therefore, you should discard it. The other problem is that if a combination has paid out a lot in the past, it will pay out very little in the future. If a combination has not come out in the past, it means that the chances of it coming out in the future has increased dramatically. The combination that I have predicted has got nothing to do with the past, it is what the Lottery is going to do in the future that it has not done yet, that is what is important. If my prediction had shown one jackpot line in the past, I will have rejected it immediately. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let us just wait and see.

Hi Tomtom,

The prediction is based on past data downloaded from the Canandian 649 Lottery website and then comparing the data with actual theory of the lottery which is checking it against the whole combination of numbers in the 649 Lottery themselves. How many people do you know make a prediction and use the understanding of the way the numbers are actually set in the whole combination of 649 to check their prediction. Everyone use past data to predict future results by running their prediction against past data again. This is fundamentally wrong. The way that I do it is I check what has not happen in the past data and based that upon the future occurrence. If it has not happen in the past, then, it will happen in the future. I do not know when and I cannot predict a combination that will come out tommorrow but over time, the combination should produce some good results, especially the 60 lines combinations. I believe that in order to have a realistic chance of winning, you have to be -prepared to invest a reasonable sum as there are too many combinations against you. If my prediction did very badly aqgainst past data, then, I am very happy about it because it means that it will do better in the future. If you want to use two dollars to play the lottery, then, you have no choice but to rely on luck and to that I say, GOOD LUCK. I want to win by chance so I have to be prepared to put in a reasonable sum of money. Most of my prediction ranges from 44 lines to 56 and then, 60, sometime even 90 lines.

Hi Matrix,

If you are expecting my prediction to come out in the next draw, then, I guess that if I could do that, I will be winning the lottery every week. Nobody on this planet can do that. You cannot judge a prediction based on just one draw. You should be trying to judge it on atleast one year before you can make any comment about it. That is why the majority of people will never win the jackpot. They are all looking for an easy way to predict the lottery. A way that does not involve any loses or any pain. You have been playing the lottery I assume since it began in your Country of origin. Have you won the jackpot yet. If you have not, then, you are not in a position to know that my prediction will never work. Above all, you must remember that playing the lottery involve gambling and with most game of gamble, the odds are always stack against you so, be prepared to loose every so often and develop a strong psychology of winning. Accept your loses with Grace and enjoy your winning when it happens and it will with my prediction.

I Produced the Results out of Pure Interest and thought that Readers of this Thread would Also Find them Interesting.
You said that you are Aiming for the 5 + the Bonus Number OR Jackpot Win, and that if a Combination of Six Numbers has Occurred in the Past, it has LITTLE Or NO Chance of Coming Out Again in the Future, and therefore, you Should Discard it. EVERY Six Number Combination has Six Potential 5 + the Bonus Number Wins Incorporated Within it. Also, EACH Draw is a Singular Random Event ( No Comment from Conspiracists Please :D ), the Lotto Balls have NO Memory, therefore EVERY Combination has EXACTLY the Same Chance of Being Drawn as ANY Other in ANY Draw, Even the Same Six Numbers Being Drawn in Consecutive Draws, Unlikely, But Feasible.
You Also said that the Combinations you have Predicted have got NOTHING to do with the Past, it is what the Lotto is going to do in the Future that it has NOT Done Yet. This is a Contradiction, in Order for you to Produce Combinations Based on what the Lotto has NOT yet Done, you Need Data for Analysis from Past Results.
I am Sure there will be Quite a Few People Watching your Combinations Progress from now on. I Wish you Luck with your Endevour :agree2: .

Hi PAB,

Although, you will find it very difficult to believe, from my observation those numbers behaves as if they have a memory of their own. The other thing is this in over 42,000 draws that I have collected, the possibility of the same six numbers occurring again has been very slim. Some of them do repeat but not enough to accept that they have the same chance of repeating again. The problem is that a lot of lottery enthusiast start by believeing that each combination of six numbers has got equal chance of occurrence. This is fundamentally wrong because each combination of six numbers does not have equal chance of occurrence. As far as my prediction is concern, in order to predict the future behaviour of the system, you need past data first, but once you have produced your prediction, you cannot then use past data to test how they would behave in the future. That is what I mean when I said that it has nothing to do with past data anymore because the results has been produced and is based on what is expected in the future. The only way you can test how successful the prediction will be is to judge the result in accordance with future Canadian 649 lottery results and not past results.

I Don't Mean to Labour this Point, BUT, Unless you are Privy to Information Not Known to the Rest of us, Or are Saying that EACH Individual Draw has Some Sort of Bias, then EACH Combination of 6 Numbers in EACH Lotto Draw DOES have an Equal Chance of Being Drawn.

Hi PAB,

Each combination of six numbers does not have equal chance of occurrence because combination of six numbers with sum 150 is highly more likely to be drawn than combination of six numbers with sum 21 for example. The reason is obvious. It is because there are more combination of six numbers in sum 150 than there are in sum 21. Therefore each combination of six numbers does not have equal chance of being drawn. The sum with the most combination has got more chance of being drawn than the sum with less combination. Although the rest are likely to be drawn, they cannot have equal chance of being drawn. This is simply based on the laws of probability.

Hi Karnac,

We do not know what the future will do but all that we can do based on the past behaviour of the system is to make certain prediction and be prepared to wait for those prediction to come true. I do agree that there could possibly be a small element of luck involved in prediction but you need to have done your homework before allowing either mother nature or luck to help you out. Who is to say that 1 and 3 will not come out in Wednesday's draw or the draw after that. We cannot play all the possible predictions in the 649 lottery due to limited resources but what we can do is to play certain conbination and hope that when they do come out, we end up winning a large sum of money.

1. It does NOT matter what you do for that.
There is not Law, Axiom or Procedure that can do that.

That means that your system, any other's system, is as good to selecting these 3 bankers. consistently.

2. Any Draw history is just a "history".
There is not Law or Axiom that can change that with the present Techonology or mathematics.

3. A reduced system is the one that you can use to "test" any other system.

Hi Francis,

Where did the Scenario of the Total Sum of the 6 Numbers in a Combination come from, that was NOT what was being Discussed. But Granted, if we are Talking about the Total Sum of a Combination, then Yes, Obviously the Total Sum with the Most Combinations has a BETTER ( in Theory ), NOT GUARANTEED, Chance of Being Drawn than a Total Sum that Only has a Few Combinations. But I Still Stand by what I have said, EVERY Combination has an EQUAL Chance of Being Drawn, Regardless of the Number of Combinations.
Now if we could Foresee the Total Sum for the Next Draw, and Assuming it was 150 ( having the Most Combinations of 165,772 ), we would be Guaranteed the Jackpot and Probably End up Sharing it with Everyone Else. If it was Only that Easy to Predict.
We All Use Filters to Try and Reduce the Total Number of Combinations to a More Manageable Size, But Even Only Using One Filter could Actually Eliminate the JACKPOT Combination.
I Don't think we are going to Agree on this.
Has Anyone Else got Any Comments.

All the Best.

Looking at the sets provided by Francis, The spread between the second and third positions is huge. The thought on "delta's" states that the spread between numbers should not be higher than 15, any thoughts or comments?.
Out of 2203 draws in the Can 649( I have'nt updated for 13 draws) there appears to be only 225 draws that have a spread higher than 15, between the 2nd and 3 position.
There are only 90 draws with a spread of 20 or more between postion 2 and position 3.

Hi Francis,

Hope you have seen some sober observations regarding your system, especially Nick’s and Gillesd’s. They said about too many lines and therefore to much potentially wasted $$$ involved and therefore Nick offered a cheaper solution for those who believe in playing 3 DNs..

As you know this is a public forum and as a result people might be here from quite different reasons :D . During the high tickets prices every talk involving any high number of tickets required in following any strategy is quite strange if it hasn’t demonstrated a near to a decent money return and some really respectable chances for a good win….Those 3 numbers you count on might appear somewhere in future together, but an ordinary player might not count on a sure really good win even in that case, with probably still suffering a heavy (thousands and thousands $$$) money loss..

From all the World's 649 Lotto Numbers - 17,850 Draws - about 10 repeats.

Just about everything you write is wrong.

Get real.

It has been said quite a few time here that some combinations are unlikely to come out (if not an absolute impossibilty) as the winning combination in the next draw or that some other ones are more likely to come out.

Could somebody provide me with a clear and logical explanation why any of the 7 combinations listed below have less or more chances to come out than any of the other 13,983,809 ones?

A - 01-02-03-04-05-06 (6 consecutive numbers; why not, 5 consecutive numbers already came out in draw #1748);

B - 02-11-16-31-33-41 (winning numbers for last draw #2116; why not; the same 5 numbers have already appeared in 2 draws -- OK, not consecutive --, such as in draws #45 and 977, but also in other ones);

C - 22-27-32-37-42-47 (I like the regular pattern in this combination with a difference of 5 between each number; why not, even if it is quite regular);

D - 25-26-32-39-40-42 (winning numbers in last draw in the UK 6/49 lottery; why not, just another combination thrown in);

E - 03-08-14-21-33-35 (6 numbers generated by a random function in Excel; why not, if drawings are supposed to be random);

F - 13-15-36-42-44-45 (the 6 numbers with the longest absences in Lotto 6/49; why not, they are due);

G - 01-07-25-30-41-45 (6 numbers that may appear quite random but are definitely not).

Also, I do not need to be told that balls are controlled electronically or through other means, so that the drawings are fixed.

01 02 03 04 05 06 is a good one.

This single Comb returns some 30% compared to 20% per probability thanks to a five in Germany for 17,850 6/49 Draws from around the world. Details of this run are on my website with quite a few other tests for this number set.

A System 7 or Full Wheel using 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 returns over 17,850 World draws 19% compared to 19.6 expected. This difference is OK as it basically alternates towards the end of the run between 19 and 20%.

Unlike, Pick 3 and Pick 4 your standard lotto type game accords so well with probabability expectations over long runs that I never cease to be amazed how spot on it can be for lower prizes.

As for someone thinking they can chase sixes - (not you , of course) that really is beyond comprehesion and indicates an abysmal lack of knowledge about Lotto and the magnitude of 14,000,000 numbers.

Indeed, I will go further and say that is the kind of nonsense I don't associate much with this Forum but more with the Fairyland Forum - you know, where they do some into the future astral projection, bounce it off Mars and Jupiter and then have it return with the next days numbers after a few loop de loops around some cumulus clouds.

Regards
Colin

01-02-03-04-05-06 (6 consecutive numbers), i remember that they already came out in German lotto 649. Someone can check them out.

Basiclly, no matter what kind combinations they are, i personally think they are the same to the draw machine.

All these combs type, they are defined by you and me.

Enjoy playing and wait to see how close all this combination will be to the jackpot line, if not give us the jackpot. In accordance with chaos theory, you must impose order upon a chaotic system because in any chaotic system, there are several symetrical pattern present.

I Checked the German 649 Lotto and Found the Following :-
Draw Number = 2,269
Draw Date = Saturday 10/04/1999
Numbers Drawn = 02 03 04 05 06 26 Bonus 16
Matched with Combination 01 02 03 04 05 06 = 5

The Closest Yet, But One Day, Somewhere, there WILL be the Combination 01 02 03 04 05 06 Drawn, it is Just a Matter of Time. It could be the Next Draw Or in a Thousand Years Time.

Hi PAB,

Thanks for that information. I check Camelot's past UK Lottery results data but it would seem that there data posted on their site is inaccurate. I will try the one that you have just posted.

Hi Matrix,

That is still not good enough. The best is yet to come, you just wait. It is only a matter of time. Thanks for running the results against the South African Lottery. Have you tried any other 6/49 lotteires yet in order to see how close the prediction is. I cannot wait to see what will happen when 1 and 3 comes out together in 649 Canadian Lottery.

Hi Tomtom,

Let me answer your question by posing another. How much have those who have been playing the 649 lottery and has won next to nothing, how much have they lost do you think since the lottery began in 1982?

What you must not do is try to focus on loses because this will happen and has happened to the majority of us because the combinations in the 649 Lotteries is huge and therefore against us anyway.

I am not telling anyone to spend $800 that they cannot afford to play those numbers. They are mean't to be theoretical based on scientifc observation. The most I will spend if I was playing this system will be 60 lines which will cost $120.00 and even that is well on the expensive side. But if I can set up a syndicate to play them, then, I would and that is why I prefer to play in a syndicate in order to reduce the cost against myself.

Do not expect to win by just pure luck because it may never happen to you and I do not believe in playing with a reduce lines and then hope for luck. I believe in chance and understanding in order to increase your realistic chance of winning the big payout. The lottery in most cases does not give value for money. It is a gamble and with most gambling, unless you win the big payout, you will lose large amount of money. It may be in small change but it soon mounts up over time.

Hi PAB,

You must remember that I have been studying the lottery for 10 years and I cannot possibly divulge everything that I know about the lottery in one go but some of them will come out from time to time.

I am going to use the idea of the sum for my next prediction so wait and see what they will be.

Hi CMF,

The following results came out as five plus the bonus number in 1973 in Germany. They are:

1 3 42 44 47 48

1 3 34 44 47 48

Results speaks louder than words.

Dear All,

This represent my next prediction and this time, I have reduce the combination in order to reduce the cost. Please bear in mind that the combination that comes out as either five plus the bonus number and/or the Jackpot rarely repeat themselves. This is because those combinations would like to allow other combinations to come out. This is based on scientific observation and not just made up for the sake of it. Here are the prediction and there are ten numbers which makes 28 lines in total. They are:

You obviously are not familiar with the work I have done in Lotto.

From what you offer I really wonder whether you are parodying the members here.

I don't take you seriously - I'm actually surprised others are.

Your use of the word scientific is nothing less than an insult.

I have no further words for you - I have seen it all before on another Forum where people such as yourself come in with loopy ideas - get some attention for a while - then fade away.

In a way you are a mockery of people that spend 1000's of hours doing sensible things. I for one will have no further truck with you.

Good Day to you sir!

I am glad you decided to reduce the numbers of combinations that will show at least 5+G or 6 winning numbers. But you already said: "The best is yet to come, you just wait. It is only a matter of time." To me, it is the same as saying "It will rain". Yes eventually, somewhere in the world some rain will fall. And after the rain, the sun will come out.

So it woud be best if you were a little more precise when making predictions by mentionning the lottery. Just in Canada, we have a few 6/49 lotteries. Indicate which lottery you are predicting (Lotto 6/49) and a time frame (next 6 draws, for example). And only then I will consider you a little more seriously.

Finally, I would like to see your comments on unlikely/likely combinations that I posted in this thread not long ago. It seems that nobody disagrees with my statement that any combination is as likely to come out as any other one.

Francis Isaac

Hi GilesD,

I do not agree with you that any combination is as likely as any other but I do not see the reason for arguing with people. After all, you know what you know and I know what I know and that is how I like it.

I am predicting the 649 lottery but I am not a God who can say with absolute certainty when numbers should come out. I cannot tell you any time frame but what I do is to allow the so called random machine to do its randomness and I will just wait until my combination comes out and it has alway work for me so far.

Anyone who cannot be patient should not play the lottery because it is a frustrating system but I have developed a psycology for when I do not win because I know that one day at some point in the future, those numbers will behave as I have predicted. Sometimes, I do get it wrong but I only concentrate my energy on when I get it right.

Hi CMF,

I have a B.Sc(Hons) and and a Masters Degree in Chemistry by research From Essex University in the United Kingdom and I can assure you that I have every right to call my work scientific. I am not in this forum to proof anything to anyone and it does not bother me the slightest whether you agree with me or disagree with me because that is how great scientific discovery have been possible. Even Albert Einstein refused to accept the laws of quantum mechanics, therefore who am I not to expect people to ridicule me or try to put me down. I love every minute of what I do and nobody is going to discourage me from doing it. If you want to share your work with me and point me in the right direction, I will read it and form my own oppinion about it.

Hi Thornc,

I guess that I am just trying to proof to myself that it is possible to use past data to predict the future behaviour of the 6/49 Canadian Lotto, that is all. I am also hoping that those who read this forum will be my witness. It is not costing me any money and I am not losing any money by posting those information. I see it as just a harmless fun and a good point of either ridicule of myself by other members or a possible discussion point.

the most of us has been thinking from your first posts, you did proof that to yourself yet, because you know the fantastic theory we don't know :)

You sure have a way to put out a lot of words without saying anything. So I will come out and make a prediction like you and all lottery players here should take note of my prediction:

In a yet to be identified 6/49 lottery, I predict that as of April 20, 2005, within the next 10,000 years, the numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6 will be the winning combination. And I am sure of this, based on the fact that every combination has an equal chance.

When I say that every combination has an equal chance of coming out in a given draw, especially for lotteries using balls and not computer-selected numbers, I consider that:
- many sets of balls are available for draws and each set differs from the other ones on a individual basis; weight, dimensions, resilience, roundness are measured within a given tolerance but are not perfectly equal;
- many machines can also be used, each of them similarly made but not exact duplicates;
- mixing time varies for each draw.
Other reasons could be added also (temperature, barometric pressure, etc.). Each variation has a minute effect and this results in an impossible task to predict upcoming numbers but I have to agree that every number will eventually come out (although in Canadian Lotto 6/49 we add to wait once 79 draws before one number came out). And then every pair, every triples, etc. will also come out.

I do not want to argue with you for the sake of arguing but the reaon you gave "After all, you know what you know and I know what I know and that is how I like it.". To me, that looks more like you mean: "I have the truth and you do not, so believe me on my words only and anyhow, you would probably not understand".

I would so much like to have somebody come out and, with a solid theory behind it, prove to me that any combination I mentionned in my posting has not a small chance of coming out in the next draw.

I was putting so much confidence in YOU, a "B.Sc(Hons) and and a Masters Degree in Chemistry by research From Essex University" would do it, the scientific mind in action. By the way, to get your master degree, did you not have to present a paper? I sure hope that you gave some tangible evidence to the reviewers on which to judge your merit.

Basically, this is what we are all waiting for here: some hard facts on which to judge your theory.

As I often say, "Cheer up my friend; life is there to enjoy".

Just as an afterthough, I will post here an evaluation on my predicting ability:

In a controlled environment, posting 16 numbers over 19 draws (I forgot about one draw) in a known 6/49 lottey, I managed to get an average of 2.15 winning numbers. Not the best performance but certainly not the worst one. I even managed to beat out karnac by a small margin. (no hard feelings, karnac???)

Hi GillesD,

Firsd of all, when I join this forum, I was told that there were some so called scientists from Cambride University who claims that they know how the lottery works and then fade away.

Although 1 2 3 4 5 6 may come out one day, it is highly unlikely to come out due to the competition in the system. There is so much competition in that system that it will be absolutely impossible for 1 2 3 4 5 6 to come out.

This is how we settle a difference of opinion in Science, we have a small bet and the bet is this If 1 2 3 4 5 6 comes out in any lottery in the World in the next 20 years, I will give you £100.00. We are talking about six comsecutive numbers. The most occurring consecutive numbers is two. Three consecutive numbers coming out is very difficult and four is difficult still. When you get to five consecutive numbers, you are now getting to near impossibility, let alone six consecutive numbers.

Yes, I did write a Thesis for my masters Degree and I have copies of my thesis if you want to read it. I was also able to produced several new and unknown compounds. I know how to do research well but I will never make a comment that I cannot back up.

When you discover how something works, you have to continue to test the theory to an absolute degree.

I see the lottery as an experiment because it is suppose to be based on unpredictability and I am saying that it has to be predictable.

You can predict the future occurrence of the lottery by understanding its past.

Take for example the 6/49 Canadian Lotto, first you collect all the data, then, you analysed the data and from that analysis, you produce results of how the system should behave in the future. One way of ding this is to concentrate on a combination of numbers like 1 and 19 that has not come out in the past two years for example. You then make an assumption that they must be due together again soon. When it comes to the lottery, I can go on and on and on but I prefer to predict numbers and to see what will happen in the future. It is possible to say a lot of things and end up saying nothing. Life is all about taking chances. Everything in life must have a degree of predictability about it how ever complicated it looks. Nature has arranged things in such a simple fashion but sometimes our mind does not allow us to understand nature very well especially where millions of pouds or Dollars are concern. There are always contradiction and complexcity in nature but every complex system must have a simple, symetrical pattern in it, which makes it predictable.

Hi Hot4,

Even if I know, the essence of science is to continue to test things for as long as it takes. That is how the Atomic Bomb was made by testing in order to make sure that everything will work in accordance with observation. You never stop testing and the lottery is a good system to test your ideas. I understand how to get six numbers on the lottery and that is not a joke but I do not have the means to play enough combination in order to make my prediction an absolute certainty. What I know about the lottery cannot be written down in a single statement. I will need to give several lectures on it. The numbers in the 6/49 lottery are already set in nature and yet people think that it is random. Some people do not even know what random actually mean. You tell me the meaning of random and I will proof to you why the lottery is not random. It just appear to be random but the results of any six numbers that will come out has already been determined by nature, we just do not know it yet. My theory and the conclusion of my work is that the lottery is not a true random system and the only way that I can proof that is by releasing my results in terms of lottery number combinations before they appear in the Lottery system because I am using the past to predict the future. The reason is because the past, the present and the future are all happening in the present.

A - 01-02-03-04-05-06 ( 6 consecutive numbers; why not, 5 consecutive numbers already came out in draw #1748 );

B - 02-11-16-31-33-41 ( winning numbers for last draw #2116; why not; the same 5 numbers have already appeared in 2 draws -- OK, not consecutive --, such as in draws #45 and 977, but also in other ones );

C - 22-27-32-37-42-47 ( I like the regular pattern in this combination with a difference of 5 between each number; why not, even if it is quite regular );

D - 25-26-32-39-40-42 ( winning numbers in last draw in the UK 6/49 lottery; why not, just another combination thrown in );

E - 03-08-14-21-33-35 ( 6 numbers generated by a random function in Excel; why not, if drawings are supposed to be random );

F - 13-15-36-42-44-45 ( the 6 numbers with the longest absences in Lotto 6/49; why not, they are due );

G - 01-07-25-30-41-45 ( 6 numbers that may appear quite random but are definitely not ).

Also, I do not need to be told that balls are controlled electronically or through other means, so that the drawings are fixed.

I have to agree to some of your statements but not all of them. And to me, I am not sure you actually read what you wrote.

You say: “Although 1 2 3 4 5 6 may come out one day, it is highly unlikely to come out due to the com-petition in the system”. You are right: the odds are 13,983,815 against 1 and, as many have said, lottery is a gamble. But then, you continue with “…it will be absolutely impossible for 1 2 3 4 5 6 to come out”. I do not see the great scientific mind in action when you say highly unlikely and absolutely impossible talking about the same event within 2 phrases. It is often said that a door must be either OPEN or CLOSED but not both at the same time. Highly unlikely means a very very small possibility and absolutely impossible that there are no possibilities at all.

Just think of the odds of you and me having this discussion: your parents and mine having met each other on a given day, then enjoying themselves (I hope at least), the result being you and me, then growing up to enjoy lottery discussions, and so on, and so on. Unlikely yes but impossible no, since we are having this discussion.

I will take your reasoning for 1-2-3-4-5-6 coming out one step further with another combination: 22-27-32-37-42-47 and consider its unlikely occurrence. Let’s compare a few facts:
A - the first numbers (respectively 1 and 22): there are 1,712,304 combinations starting with a 1 and only 80,730 starting with 22
B – the delta between first and second numbers (respectively 1 and 5): again, there 1,712,304 combinations with a delta of 1 and 1,086,008 combinations with a delta of 5;
C - the delta between second and third numbers (respectively 1 and 5) … you can continue like this for a while.

Since all conditions must be met to actually get either combination (1-2-3-4-5-6 or 22-27-32-37-42-47), at the end the odds are the same, 13,983,815 against 1. But then, this is where it is absolutely impossible to say that “it will be absolutely impossible for 1 2 3 4 5 6 to come out”, it is a known fact that combination 22-27-32-37-42-47 did actually come out in Canadian Lotto 6/49 on June 23, 1990. It is even more amazing that it occurred after only 670 draws. Most likely with your worldwide knowledge of lotteries, you could give me similar examples (although I doubt you would do this – let’s stick to generalities like “I know and that is how I like it”).

So I will agree to your “HIGHLY UNLIKELY” but not to your “ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE” choice of words.

Cheer up, my friend.

PAB,
Benford's Law - while an interesting observation of real world occurance of numbers, in my opinion has no relevance in the world of lottery predictions.

Francis Isaac,
Your website has no real information without a login, and you require address and phone number to get a login - I never give out that information on-line.

CMF,
I understand the thing about URL's and was unaware of it when I initially posted my URL - I would like to note however that my website has no forums (and has a link on every page to this forum site), a simple one-way feedback mechanism, no advertisements of any kind, and the only content is my forecasts, and results of past forecasts. It is a text only web-site, currently no graphics of any kind. It's only purpose is to show my forecasts, and results so that I don't have to post them somewhere before the drawing to say I have a successful forecast - this is automatically done for me.
I see no real information here that is worthy of copyright, other than the php code that runs the forums. Any text I post anywhere belongs to me, and I can do with it as I see fit - although by posting it in a forum it also becomes part of the public domain. Not even really sure why you mentioned copyright.
I agree with your observations about sums / evens & odds, however I take them into account in a different manner in my forecasting and I do feel that the have a place there.

Irvin,
I would like to forecast for the New Zealand lottery however I am unable to find a source on-line for the results in a TEXT format. If you know of such a place, let me know so I can add it to my forecasting.

All - My thoughts on forecasting:
Everyone here seems to be mainly interested in picking a future jackpot for one of the 6/49's, I am attempting to pick winners (not necessarily the jackpot) in 67 lotteries of various formats - a somewhat larger scale.

There are no random numbers. The best that we can achieve by any method is something close to random.

Each lottery is a unique entity (based on it's parameters, draw method, and historical data) - what is true for one lottery will not necessarily be true for the next lottery. Each drawing within that lottery is a unique event, things true about the next event will not necessarily be true for ALL future events. The historical data is a series of drawings, in order to determine what numbers the next event in the series should be you must determine what trends and patterns exist and evaluate if those trends / patterns will continue or change. As a result, what I forecast for tomorrows drawing will not be the same for the drawing following that.

I think we are all in agreement that there is no way to say these 6 numbers (or howmany ever depending on your lottery) will be the numbers drawn. So we are all choosing more numbers than cannot fit on one ticket, it only makes sense to use a wheel type system - not necessarily a simple straight full wheel (it's the only cost effective way)

The only way to prove that you can predict the lottery is to win money actually playing the lottery (not necessarily hitting the jackpot) regularly. No one who is here reading all this can afford to play hundreds of $$ each drawing (if you can, I have to ask why you're here). So I have numerous systems used in my predictions, I decide if I'm going to play a given drawing, then choose one of the small systems usually from 6 to 66 tickets depending on my budget at the time, recent performances in predictions and of those systems individually.

This year, I have had systems with 5/5 tickets in 4 different lotteries (one of them in my preferred lottery - of course I played a system that day of 14 tickets, had a 4/5 winner, 2 3/5 winners, and a couple 2/5 winners for around $800). I'm now playing on their money. Right now only the results of the most recent jackpot pick are on my system - I only keep ticket details for a limited time (my database is huge as it is). Tuesday morning (had I played that same 14 ticket system) I would have won another $756. Right now I'm on a break and probably won't play again until May. Between then and the end of the year, I will consider myself successful if I hit second prize 4/5 3 more times (not playing every drawing).

My system has a long way to go before I consider it good, it will probably always be a work in progress. I am not going to claim that my system is better than anyone else's, but it is significantly different than any that I've seen or heard about - and I have had what I feel are reasonable results. I have only recently started with pick 6 lotteries, so I have a limited amount of data and have not optimized the parameters of the forecasts (no I'm not going out and getting the entire history of every lottery - I'll wait patiently for data to arrive automatically, and I don't believe that you need the entire history to make a valid forecast). What I'm really doing here is like trying to hit a moving target at 100 yards with a shotgun using buckshot - not an easy task, but I'm happy with my results so far, and am sure that I will be able to improve my results.

With all that said, I'll respond to any direct questions, but I think it's time for this old country boy (no degrees, 20+ years computer experience, and 30+ years of following mostly US lotteries until recently) to return to my normal "Lurker" state, and spend my time working on my forecasting system and other more important "life" things.

My forecasts and results are available "hassle-free" on my website, if you're interested in how I'm doing you'll find everything there. Everyone here has been pretty cool, so the best of luck in your lottery playing, number selection, and even life in general for that matter!

I realize that you are "metric" and thought about that as I wrote my post, but not to worry - I won't hold that against you 8) ... I too was using a slingshot until I created my shotgun ...

Matrix,
Thanks for your feedback, your first (long) post was something I don't understand the relavence of, if you could explain I would apprecaite it - all feedback, good or bad is important to me.

Taiwan Lotteries, I would be happy to add them (in fact any lotteries I will add), but I must be able to retrieve the results from the internet in a "text" format - If you could point me in the right direction I will gladly add them to my system.

How to interpret my forecasts? My forecast is simply an ordered list, the first number is what I feel is most likely to be drawn. So if you choose to play a system using 9 numbers then you simply take the first 9 numbers from the forecast and use them in your system. If you don't have a system that you like to play then you may choose one of the systems I generate based on how many tickets or numbers you want to play for that drawing. Most of my systems are ones I've found in books, although I have a few from other sources, and have created a few using programs like CoverMaster. If this is not a good enough explanation let me know so I can clarify.

Oops! Fat fingers caused me to submit too soon ...

Tonight after checking I found that I picked another 5/5 jackpot - This time in Michigan's Fantasy 5 lottery (5/39), it was my 31st forecast for this lottery ... All 5 numbers were within the first 9 numbers of my forecast ... I generated 21 systems of tickets - systems summary (best ticket)

1/5 x 1
2/5 x 2
3/5 x 5
4/5 x 12
5/5 x 1

of the system with 5/5 (27 tickets) ticket summary

5/5 x 1
4/5 x 6
3/5 x 12
2/5 x 8
1/5 x 0

With this jackpot that makes 6 5/5 Jackpots this year (each in a different lottery).

Based on everyone's experience in attempting to pick winners, what do you think? Am I just getting lucky, or do I have something here?

Hi PAB,

Let me start by saying quite frankly that each combination of six numbers does not have equal chance of occurrence. It has nothing to do with bias in the balls that goes into the machine but the way the numbers themselves are set in nature. I will prove this to you by using the list of numbers given by GillesD. Every single one of the combination GillesD gave out, has no chance of comming out as six numbers, if you select them on their own. The reason is quite simple. The combination of numbers in the Lottery system does not exist alone. They exist in a group of combinations. Let me take GillesD first example which is 1 2 3 4 5 6 (A) coming out. First of all, you are expecting 1 2 3 to come out together and that has 15,180 combinations. This combinations are then split into different sum of numbers and there are 130 sums altogether and each sum has got so many combinations. The combination of each sum start from 21 with just one combination all the way to sum 84 which has 253 combinations then to sum 150. The competition in that group is so unbelievable because you will expect the sum with the most amount of combination to have the most chance of coming out. To make things a little bit more complicated, sum 84,85,86 and 87 have the same amount of combinations. Not only has 1 2 3 4 5 6 got to compete with all this sum, it also has to deal with the fact that it is six consecutive numbers. It has no chance of coming out.

Now, lety us go to the second list which is (B), 2 11 16 31 33 41. This combination has got more chance of coming out than 1 2 3 4 5 6 because there are only 5456 combination in total with only 91 sums. The reason why this will never come out is because this combination is competing with 91 different sums and each sum has serveral different combinations. This combination has sum 134 and there are 122 possible combinations that add up to sum 134. Even if sum 134 does come out, there are 122 different combinations within that sum and only one can come out. I am happy to bet on it that this combination has no chance of ever coming out.

Now let us look at the next combination which is (C) 22 27 32 37 42 47. This combination has got just 680 combination altogether and would appear to have the best chance of the three combination so far but it has several draw back. One it is starting with such a high number that it will take several years for number 22 to come out as the first number based on its last appearance. Then, it has 43 sum and each sum has several combinations. I personally like this particular combination but I will never play it on its own without choosing other combinations with number 22 starting the group as well. The sum for this combination is sum 207 and there are only 31 combinations possible for that sum. This combination is good because it is affordable as you can play the whole sum to give you maximum chance but on its own, it has no chance. Now, let us look at combination (D) which is 25 26 32 39 40 42. This combination has exactly the same amount of combination as the last one. It also has 680 combinations and both combination (C) and (D) appear to have exactly equal chance of occurrence but (C) is highly more likely than (D) because number 22 starting the group has got more combinations than number 25 starting the group. Other than that, they would have behave the same with equal chance of occurrence. By the way, combination (D) have sum 204 which has 31 combinations as well, Combination (D) may have come out in the UK Lottery and this only happen by pure luck and not chance because it would have been very difficult to determined that this combination would come out. If you were playing this combination on its own, there is no way you can say with absolute certainty that it will come out at some point within the next 10 years, when it did. Now, let us look at combination (E) which is 3 8 14 21 33 35. This combination does not have any chance of coming out because, there are 6545 combinations in this group in total but there are 97 possible sum. This combination has sum 114 which has 136 possible combinations with sum 114 and you have only chosen one combination. Even if the right sum were to come out, that makes it 1 in 136 chance of the right combination coming out and that is just not going to happen for this combination to come out. Now let us look at combination (F) which is 13 15 36 42 44 45. Of all the combinations so far, this combination is the best because it only has 286 combinations in the group in total with just 31 sums. This combination has sum 195 and there are only 17 possible combination in this group with sum 195. I will be tempted to play this one because it has the most chance but I will not play it on its own, I will play the whole 17 combinations and I will give you all the possible 17 combinations here. They are:

D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6

13 15 36 39 43 49
13 15 36 38 44 49
13 15 36 38 46 47

The last combination combination (G) which is 1 7 25 30 41 45 has combinations 2024 with sum 149. There are 64 possible sum in this group of family of numbers and each have several combinations of their own and this combination has sum 149 and the combination with sum 149 is 64 possible combinations. I suppose that 64 is not bad but it has too many combinations stil I hope that this has been educational. If any one of the combinations above other than (D) comes out anywhere in the World, please do let me know.

Hi Matrix,

I picked this 44 lines based on the highest occurring number in position 1, I then decided to pick 48 and 49 as the two most occurring number in position 6. I know that number 1 in position 1 has 1,712,304 followed by number 2 in position 1 which is 1,533,939, followed by number 3 in position 1 which is 1,370,754. By picking 1 2 and 3 in a row, I expect those three numbers to come out more often. I then pick number 49 in position 6 because it has exactly the same amount of combination with number 1 and 48 because it has exactly the same amount of combination as number 2. I expect this combination to win on every lines when it does win. You will also noticed that every possible number in the 6/49 lotto has been included in position 4. They are basically all there because you have 1 2 and 3 and then 4 to 47 are captured in position 4 then 48 and 49 in position 5 and 6. This is my reasoning for choosing those combinations. I always like to set my combinations of numbers so that when there is a win, it usually occur on every line. Have fun and let me know what you think.

Hi Matrix,

Thanks for that. I await the rest of your results. Have you got a program that helps you to do this because I would not mind having a program like that. I would love to run my combinations against past data in my database but the program that I have can only calculate up to 20 numbers and that is it. If you can give me the address of where to buy the program, I would be extremely grateful.

I am pleased you have decided to look at my proposed combinations and I will answer your comments as time permits, hoping to give members here an opportunity to see both sides of the fence. Let’s start with my combination (C) 22 27 32 37 42 47 and your comments.

You say: “One it is starting with such a high number that it will take several years for number 22 to come out as the first number based on its last appearance.” Yes, there are only 80,730 possible combinations out of the 13,983,816 or 0.58%. So far, it occurred 14 times in the 2,218 draws or 0.63%, fairly normal I would say. The last time it happened was in May 2000 in draw #1705. With a theorical percentage of 0.58%, we can expect (and that’s what we got on average since Lotto 6/49 started) about 1such winning combination every two years. Twice it happened in fairly near draws (#59/88 and also 916/951). It has now been nearly 5 years, so it might be coming soon and I can not agree with your statement: “One it is starting with such a high number that it will take several years for number 22 to come out as the first number based on its last appearance”.

One general comment appears quite appropriate here. The winning combination for draw #1748 in October 2000 was 38-43-44-45-46-47: a more unlikely combination with an even higher number (38) and 5 consecutive numbers. Yet it happened. So you will say: most likely the jackpot was not won. But if I can remember well, I think there were 4 wining tickets. How about this.

For my combination, you also say: “I will never play it on its own” and a little later “but on its own, it has no chance”. To tell you the truth, I sure would have liked to bet on these numbers because on June 23, 1990, this was the winning combination. And like for each of the other 2,217 winning combinations, I will say it had a small chance (1 out of 13,983,816) and on that day, it was the day to choose it.

So I would say you struck out on this one and I am one up on you. I know, I know, it was not very kind of me to put a past winning combination in my choices but since I knew you would say it had no chances…

Irvin,
I have added the NZ lottery - what an interesting critter, bonus, powerball and strike order in the same lotto - or am I reading it wrong?
The history doesn't include the drawing date, so I didn't use it.

More important than the history data is a URL where I can go to find the current winning numbers of the last draw in text format (it took some looking, but I found one). Once I have acquired 10 drawings worth of data I'll be generating forecasts.

Matrix,
Yes, please send me your research info - I'd love to read it.

TW Lotto - I can't seem to find anything on it. What I really need more than anything to include it in my forecast is a URL where I can find the winners of the latest drawing in text format - I don't have to be able to read the verbage on the page just the numbers (I'm forecasting the Italian lotto getting the info from pages where I don't understand the language).

Francis Isaac,
Reading your posts has me curious about your strategy and philosophy of predicting ...

If your predictions are based on a single lottery's historical data - how can you then check your predictions against other lottery results and call this valid? Doesn't the fact that no two lotteries share the same history render that observation invalid - even if the lotteries are of the same format?

you can try it.

All i need to do is to input the lotto history data(text file),

they will be checked out in 2~5seconds.

Now let’s look at my A combination, the famous 1-2-3-4-5-6. I once read that this combination is one of the frequent combinations that people bet on. At least, this would be a very good reason by itself not to choose it: if you win with it when it is going to come out, your winnings will diluted due to numerous winners.

You then proceed with a very nice demonstration about the chances of this combination saying things like:
- “The combination of numbers in the Lottery system does not exist alone. They exist in a group of combinations”; very true and each 6-number combination is unique since the order the 6 balls come out does not matter and there are only 49 balls to draw from (with no duplicate);
- “The competition in that group is so unbelievable because you will expect the sum with the most amount of combination to have the most chance of coming out” while referring to combinations with 1-2-3 and with a sum going from 21 (with numbers 4-5-6) to 150 (with numbers 47-48-49). You are right in saying a total sum of 21 has only once chance against all others but the winner of the lottery is not the one that finds the proper sum but the on that picks all individual numbers. As a matter of fact, in all combinations, 150 is the sum occurring most often with 165,772 times (a very nice normal distribution also for the sum of numbers);
- You then add a complicating factor, the fact that all numbers must be consecutive but this does not add anything to the discussion since to get a sum of 21 with 6 different and positive numbers, this can be achieved only with 1-2-3-4-5-6;
- Up to here, I have to agree with your reasoning: the combination has extremely low chances of coming out (as a matter of fact 13,983,815 against 1).

But this is where you take your wishful thinking for an undisputable fact by stating, “It has no chance of coming out”. To me (and I would add to any sound scientific mind), anything with even a very remote chance of occurring cannot be dismissed entirely. Just think you are in 1950 and you consider the odds against putting a man on the moon within 50 years; the odds for this would have been even greater than winning a 6/49 lottery. Yet it happened less than 20 years later. With your reasoning, you would have said: NO WAY, it cannot ever be done.

I do not say that the 1-2-3-4-5-6 combination will come out in draw #2119 on Wednesday or within 20 years or roughly 2100 draws (you have to remember that this represents about 0.015% of all combinations) but the statement can not be rejected altogether.

So I would say you missed this one also and you are now down two strikes. Being in England, you may not know too much about baseball, but after 3 strikes you are out.

This discussion appears to be a Statistics & Probability Tutorial.

The lecturer seems to be a busy, somewhat disorganised, Chemistry graduate.

It has taken him 10 years to collect and organise the course material.

The delivery style appears to be of the form "101 facts about.."

The class has lost interest.

They have already covered this material.

Hello Tarantula,

Sorry about the run around on the NZ lotto.

Yes there are other games within the lotto game.

New Zealand lotto is now a 6+b from 40 game (its changed so many times but still uses 40 numbers)

The other game is strike you have to guess the first 4 drawn lotto numbers from the 6 drawn in the correct order.

And then there is the power ball number on top of all that (Picked from 8 balls).

Hi ChiefWiggum,

If the class have already covered this material, why have they not won the lottery yet?

Do you really think that I can lose interest from my chosen subject just because the so called expert are sitting there being pompous and yet they are not winning.

Show me or proof to me that you have won the Jackpot more than once and how you did it and I will not contribute towards the discussion anymore.

Until then, what you know is no better than what I know and I deal with reality and not just making a statement without being able to back it up scientifically.

Hi GillesD,

From your statement, you seems to be agreeing with me because if number 22 has not come out in the last five years from its last appearance, are we not saying the same thing? Now you said that it may well be due, I do agree with you on this one so, which combination of six numbers starting with number 22 are you now going to pick that will definitely come out in the future. If you can post it now and it does come out , I will agree that you have got one on me. Until then, using lottery results that has already come out to back up your point is irrelevant because what we are trying to predict is what is going to happen in the future and not what has already happened. We only use the past as a guide to what will happen in the future and that is all. Will you be prepared to play one line of number 22 that comes out 14 times in 2218 draws? You have to have the patient of a saint to do that. If someone win with number 38 starting the group, it is because they played it randomly mostly and they were just very lucky, that is all. Number 38 starting the group will come out but not very often.
When is number 38 starting the group going to come out again, do you know? If you do not know, how can you say that you have got one on me. You have not got anything on me, you just believe that you have and that is entirely up to you and your reasoning which I must say that as a human being you are entitled to have.

What do you think of the results? Does it not proof that all 6/49 lotteries behaves in a similar fashion and that a combinatrion like that will be suitable in any 6/49 lotteries in the World.

Let me have your comment in due course.

The recent election of the pope by SECRET ballot illustrates the answer to your question.

119 cardinals meet to elect a pope.
A two thirds majority is required.
4 votes a day are held
If, after 60 votes are taken, a two thirds majority is not reached, then a simple majority is allowed.

The result is announced within 2 days. A new pope is chosen.

The media, denied access to these proceedings, engages in speculation.

Was the pope a popular choice ?

Did he achieve a two thirds majority, or a simple majority ?

Who voted for/against him ?

The only fact that can asserted with absolute certainty is that the pope obtained AT LEAST a simple majority. There is consequently NO PRIZE for guessing this, since it is obvious.

The other questions remain unanswered.

To be explicit:

The election is the Lotto Draw
The media is YOU.
The "rules" of the ballot are Statistics & Probability.

Simply re-stating the "rules" of the ballot generates no public interest.

Feel free to speculate! Break some "rules".

As for experts sitting on the sidelines, they exist.

They are waiting for you to get on the same page.

I went to Mcdonald's, just around the corner from me, a while ago with my 9 year old daughter - last day of Easter School Holidays. The Supervisor was badly dressed and the kichen staff were loudly arguing with each other. Unusual, I thought.

Got my McOz and Quarter Pounder for my daughter and the daily paper. I then find at least 20 cold, uncooked chips (frys) amongst the cooked fat soaked ones - definitely not crisp. Unusual, I thought. The place was not packed out as I would have expected - wonder why, I thought.

So, read through the paper - gave up buying them years ago - doing my thing for the Amazon and tree preservation and noticed this little snippet.

Pope admits he prayed to God he would not be elected. Admits God did not hear him. Not unusual, I thought.

Better go and make a cup of coffee. What were you talking about? Ah, Lotto, do carry on.

Hi Tarantula,

The 6/49 lottery share the same information in the sense that they should eventually come to the same conclusion although the six numbers being generated from each lottery are different. A combination of six numbers that has come out from a 6/49 lottery in one country has little chance of coming out somewhere else. There is a general trend between the 6/49 lottery in the sense that they all have the same amount of combination and should behaves similarly even though there results appear to be different. The combination that I gave out above will give good results in any 6/49 lotteries because it is based on the amount of combination each number have in the 6/49 lotteries. You can use the combinations in any 6/49 lotteries in any country and by asking other members to check it for me, I am trying to proof my hypothesis that the combinations should generate good result in all countries. I hope that this has answered your question, if not, you are free to ask me another question if you are still not convince, but let the results from other members convince you.

Hi ChiefWiggum,

I must admit that it does happen but not very often in comparison to the amount of combinations being drawn. Sometimes when I try to combine two results together, some of the results will be rejected because my program has found a duplicate which means that two different lotteries have suddenly got exactly the same six numbers. You cannot say that because a combination which occur in a particular lottery has occurred in another lottery, therefore, you will play numbers that has occurred in one lottery in another lottery in the hope that it will come out in that different lottery. I cannot use the combination which has come out in the UK lottery to play the 6/49 Canadian lotto for example. Although certain thing happen that we do not expect to happen, what advantage is it to us and can we use the results to get a better life for ourselves because that is what it is all about.

I think I've finally deciphered what you are saying.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You have a list of combinations that, according to your calculations, are good for any 6/49 lottery in the world. The calculations are based on Statistics and Probability.

At the moment, you have a limited history which you need to expand in order to test this list against.

In order to expand the history, you may need to "borrow" some histories from other countries.

You are unsure as to whether it is prudent to do this.

Is it better to generate the required history ? You are undecided.

Once you have compiled the list, you may need to form a syndicate to bet on the numbers since you probably cannot afford the coverage needed.

If you wanted to form a syndicate, why didn't you just say so ?

Francis,

I disagree!

I don't beleive that you can lump all of the 6/49 lotteries together like that. While you are correct that the chances of numbers drawn in one lottery to be drawn in another - it has happened (as ChiefWiggum pointed out, and it wouldn't surprise me to see more - but I haven't actually checked that). The chances of the same numbers being drawn twice in a single lottery are next to nil - even if the lottery in question were drawn daily for 10 years. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't beleive that has happened to date in any lottery.

Since you're lumping all of the 6/49 lotteries together, why not simulate your own 6/49 lottery (on your computer) and use that information to determine your predictions - since they are all the same and can be lumped together, it shouldn't matter that it's not an actual played lottery (since it's another 6/49 format).

I think that maybe if you were to look at 30 million drawings for two different 6/49 lotteries, you would be able to make the same generalizations about the data for each, but the window we're looking at is what about 1000 drawings or less, for each lottery I think you'll find that each lottery is unique because of that limited amount of data we're looking at.

I believe that each lottery is it's own unique entity and can't be used in attempts to predict a different lottery. I think that if you look at any given aspect of one lottery, and compare it to that same aspect of another lottery of the same format you will find different results.

What happens to your analysis when a lottery changes format, let's say they decided to add 3 more numbers tomorrow and now one of your 6/49 lotteries is a 6/52? Or when a lottery ends? Do 6/49's and 6/49+1's get lumped together or would they be seperate by you're theory?

While I keep an open mind, it will take something solid to convince me otherwise. Let me know what you think.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?

PAB,
You seem to be the man for statistical numbers around here - I see them in your posts all the time.

Carryover - this is my term for when one or more numbers from today's drawing is drawn again tomorrow, I'm not sure what you may call it but I know you've looked at this aspect of drawings. Have you looked at this aspect for each of the canadian 6/49's? If so do they come fairly close together or is there a significant variance from lottery to lottery? I know with different format lotteries, I've seen large (up to 20% variance).
I only asked you specifically because I recall seeing it posted somewhere here for a single lottery (I think it was you who posted it) but I was unable to find it again.

Carryover is a good term for any number repeating itself in next draw. In theory, the probability of no carryover is 43.6% and obviously, a 56.4% probability of having 1 to 6 carryovers. Having the same 6 winning numbers repeating themselves in consecutive draws appears impossible but the odds for this are still 13,983,815 to 1. In the table below, I listed the individual values (theorical and actual) for the 7 possible carryovers, from 0 to 6. This is based on 2218 draws of Lotto 6/49.

0 number: 43.6% theorical and actual: 43.3%
1 number: 41.3% theorical and actual: 41.1%
2 numbers: 13.2% theorical and actual: 13.7%
3 numbers: 1.77% theorical and actual: 1.76%
4 numbers: 0.097% theorical and actual: 0.045%
5 numbers: 0.002% theorical and actual: 0.000%
6 numbers: 0.000% theorical and actual: 0.000%

The question about when we can expect a winning combination to come out again has always puzzled me and you mention unlikely within 10 years for a daily lottery. I agree as this represents slightly over 3650 draws or 0.0261% of all combinations. But we have to remember that you need less than 23 people in a room to have more chances of having 2 persons with the same birthday than having all different birthdays.

The following site (http://people.bath.ac.uk/clp20/thebirthdayproblem.html) provides some information on this problem.

Tarantula
04-27-2005, 02:13 PM
GillesD,
The birthday thing is pretty interesting, however I have to point out that 23 birthdays of a possible 365 is about 6.3% to get that percentage of 6/49 combinations would be 881,170 drawings - something we probably won't see in our lifetime unless there's a drawing much more frequently than daily.

Another interesting fact is in the first 10 or so years of the PA daily lottery (3 digit 1/1000) there were 5 or 6 numbers that had never been drawn (this was around 1987 or so).

RJO3,
Thanks for pointing out the error on my web site, and for the BC49 data. I have corrected the error, added the new data, and made some adjustments to the parameters generating the forecast. There should be a new forecast for the BC49 within an hour or so available on my site.

Hi Tarantula,

maybe you should consider starting a new thread in this section cuz Forecasting is better suited here rather than Anything Goes, IMO.

Rather than splitting-up into individual games, since your site covers many lottos globally, it may make more sense to park here for general Q's, input from players, comments, etc.

And if players make use of your Forecast they could provide a note of credit in the appropriate Picks threads if/when they post ...

What do you think?

Cheers

Your mention of some numbers not coming out after quite a few draws lead me to try a small experiment. Simulate drawing numbers from 0 to 999 and determine how many draws were necessary to get respectively 500, 750, 950 and 1000 different numbers. This was done 500 times to get meaningful results. Here are the numbers of draws I needed to get:

- 500 different numbers: Average: 694.4 ranging from 647 to 748 and a standard deviation of 18.1

- 750 different numbers: Average: 1,389.7 ranging from 1,262 to 1,509 and a standard deviation of 41.7

- 950 different numbers: Average: 2,983.2 ranging from 2,658 to 3,478 and a standard deviation of 133.6

- 1000 different numbers: Average: 7,374.9 ranging from 5,087 to 12,235 and a standard deviation of 1,361.6

And I have to agree with Brad about the length and scope of this thread.

Thank you for pointing out that at least 40% of draws involve a REPEAT (or carryover).

It is the case-winning argument in Statistics & Probability vs. The Evidence.

Few of these cases see the inside of a court room.

The plaintiff, (S & P), usually reaches an an "out-of-court" settlement.

The respondent tends to settle for 4/6 or 5/6.

Every so often, a class action suit (syndicate) is attempted. The circus continues.

Hi Tarantula,

The particular combination that I want checking did not come from past data. It came from the amount of combination of each number in position 1 in the lottery. I, then made a prediction based on the first three numbers that is more likely to come out more often and the last two numbers i.e. number 48 and 49 that is more likely to come out in the last column. The combination itself is not expected to give the jackpot but I was expecting it to atleast give five numbers and no more. I wanted this checked against any 6/49 lotteries in order to see if five numbers atleast has come out in any of the lotteries. You can combine results together and use it as a guide to future behaviour of the system, it just depends on how you chose to do it.

Hi ChiefWiggum,

I do not want to form a syndicate with those numbers but I expected those combinations to do very well in any 6/49 lotteries in the World and I was only asking other members to assist with my assumption which infact they have done. I do not expect the Jackpot line to come out of those combinations because of the three and two consecutive numbers on the same line but I expect those combinations to be good for the lower tier winnings which is not what I am after myself. I am after the jackpot and I am working very hard to get it.

Hi Tarantula,

There is nothing wrong in lumping results together in order to use it to predict one lottery. Although, I must admit that this is not the most scientific way of doing it but I find that lumping them together help me to see how the sum of each combinations are behaving and which sum has come out and which has not. It is the same argument about bonus number. Some people believe that you should not use the bonus number as part of your combinations, you should only focus on the first six numbers and ignore the bonus. I find that the bonus numbers help to give me more data and I use the assumption that if a six number combinations has come out, it is not relevant whether it came out as the jackpot or five plus the bonus, but once it has come out, it has less chance of coming out again. Some six numbers do repeat themselves by coming out again but this is very rare indeed. It does not occur often.

Hi GillesD,

I particularly like your argument about 1 2 3 4 5 6. It is the same argument about all combinations of six numbers in the whole lottery system coming out eventually. I diagree that 1 2 3 4 5 6 will eventually come out because I bilieve that by the time this event even happen and that is if it has any chance of happening, we will all be dead anyway. 1 2 3 4 5 6 is just such an unlikely event to occur that I am prepared to take a small bet on it. If not all combinations are going to come out eventually, why should 1 2 3 4 5 6 come out. You must also remember that we are not talking about the progress of mankind like whether it will be possible for us to ever visit planet Mars one day. There is no way that I will say that it is not possible or that it will never happen. What we are talking about is a naturally random generated event. Certain combinations will never come out in the 6/49 lotteries and I am afraid that your 1 2 3 4 5 6 happens to be one of them. You have also admitted that you will not play this combination anyway, so, there is no point in discussing it really other than for curiosity. I still believe that those who are waiting for 1 2 3 4 5 6 to come out are wasting their time and money and if it ever come out, I will be more than happy to eat humble pie and admit that I was wrong but until then, you have got no strike on me. Proof it to me that 1 2 3 4 5 6 will come out atleast before we die and I will happily accept that I was wrong.

In an Article in One of the Tabloids Last Year, they Estimated that there was in Excess of 20,000 People that Played 1-2-3-4-5-6 Each Draw. The thing is, if that Combination was to be Drawn, the Payout would Probably NOT Cover their Layout to Date.
The Average Jackpot Money for the UK 649 Lotto is About £4,000,000. If we Assume that the Numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6 are Drawn and that 20,000 People have the Winning Numbers, they would EACH Receive £200.
At Least they are Increasing the Jackpot Money Available Each Draw.

Consider a game of roulette. Similar to a 1/35 lottery.

It can be roughly turned into a 6/36 lottery, by grouping the results into groups of 6.

If, after such grouping, it was found that over 40% of the time a number from the current half-dozen was a REPEAT from the previous half-dozen, there would be a lot of red faces,

I know from just sheer observation that most winning numbers fall between 9 to 41 with a good sum range--now if someone were to have a lotto program with every winning combination deducted from every possible combination we could probably play the remaing sets to a good win ratio--- Can this be really done????
its another deduction theory:)

red0412303609

Your statement "just sheer observation that most winning numbers fall between 9 to 41" is not confirmed by hard data, at least not in Canadian Lotto 6/49.

If winning numbers are divided into 3 groups, we get the following results:

Numbers 01 to 08: 2,145 times or 16.11% (expected value for 8 numbers: 16.33%)
Numbers 09 to 41: 8,902 times or 66.86% (expected value for 33 numbers: 67.35%)
Numbers 42 to 49: 2,267 times or 17.08% (expected value for 8 numbers: 16.33%)

By comparing the occurences of 33 numbers against 16, it is sure you will get more occurences but choosing any set of 33 numbers will give you this (first 33, last 33, first 16+last 17, middle 33, etc.).

Actually the numbers 09 to 41 occured a little less often than expected; this also applies to numbers 01 to 08. Only the range 42-49 shows more occurences than expected. This indicates that higher numbers (but not only in the range 42-49) have a small but definite tendency to come out a little more often.

This can be seen even more easily if all numbers are divided in equal groups of 7 numbers. The results are then:

Numbers 01 to 07: 1884 times or 14.15%
Numbers 08 to 14: 1808 times or 13.58%
Numbers 15 to 21: 1874 times or 14.08%
Numbers 22 to 28: 1851 times or 13.90%
Numbers 29 to 35: 1982 times or 14.89%
Numbers 36 to 42: 1919 times or 14.41%
Numbers 43 to 49: 1996 times or 14.99%

For 7 numbers out of 49, the value should be 14.29%.

A good thing you came out of retirement to view today's result for Lotto 6/49: 23 - 40 - 41 - 42 - 44 - 45. Just having 5 numbers in the same group of ten numbers is pretty rare (about 0.3% of the times), but what makes it even more interesting is the bonus number. YES, it is 43, so out of the 7 numbers drawn, 6 of them are consecutive (40 to 45). I know, I know this is not the famous 1-2-3-4-5-6 combination but this confirms that any 6 numbers can and will eventually come, give or take a few centuries, and may be even next saturday.

I agree that I can not prove the combination will come out (or when) but your total reject of this possibility is not based on something. Remember UNLIKELY is not equal to IMPOSSIBLE. And with the amount of snow we got this winter (over 400 cm in Quebec City), I have to say: anything is possible.

This is probably a dumb question, but I am new here and I have looked all over this forum to find the answer with no luck. But, what EXACTLY is the Karnac theory? Where do I find it at? I have saw several posts about how great it is, but no one ever says where they learned it. Can someone help me???

Karnac is a member of the board who has found his own, unique way of using Gail Howard's tools. Search Gail Howard among his posts and you will find it. It can't help me because I don't have Gail's system (it's awfully pricey just to get set up... over $100 Cdn).

Hi Nick,

It`s exciting to talk with you I had seen your work many times which I found very impressive, I`m from Brazil and here we have a lottery with 40 numbers, so I`m trying to wheel it without spend too much, I`ve tried some of the Rade Belic`s system but even that way there is a lot of cards to play so that means high money, so since I saw your comments about the Dragon wheel and 30 wheels, I would like to ask you if there is any wheel which I can use it to better the odds chances!!

Thanks
Jorge Ramos

Hello, Isaac Francis, I agree with much of what he wrote, but I have a question
About columns, and analyzed the results for the order of drawings, by example
Order of draw the number 49 can be the first number of the bet (lotto 49 / 6)
You did a good approach for a pillar in the draws in increasing order, as would
The analysis in the order of the sweepstakes? Everyone knows that lotteries can only predict
Mathematically 100% 3 to 4 numbers of a lottery 49 / 6, then how could you
Help me predict the court by the study of positions since the lottery 46 / 6 has 15 blocks (four numbers) make the analysis of the two columns by drawing lots, by increasing the sweepstakes
The other two numbers will be to complete six eleatorios. Can you help me
